Orange Jellyfish

Jellyfish have always made people, children and grown ups alike, curious with their magical colors. Jellyfish are beautiful creatures that can be found from the shallow to the deep parts of the sea. They are translucent and colorful and are also found in fresh water. They come in an array of beautiful colors and there are many that look orange. Sea nettle is another name for a kind of jellyfish which is semi- transparent and orange. Though beautiful, its sting is quite strong and can induce moderate to severe reactions in humans but is not fatal.

They are cnidarians and have a saucer shaped body form which contain only the two cellular layers namely, the endoderm and the ectoderm. These free swimming creatures display radial symmetry and are carnivores by nature. Because of the attractive color and the beauty of jellyfish, they become very popular aquarium exhibits.

Jellyfish blooms are sometimes seen in certain areas of the oceans where a large population of jellyfish will be found in one place and it can even alter the color of the water in that area. A swarm of the orange jellyfish would give the water an orange-ish tint.

Though beautiful to look at they can be very toxic. When stung by it, one will need to give the victim immediate first aid treatment. Most are non- fatal but some of these species can kill. Even the stings from species of jellyfish that aren't fatal will be very painful. Some times professional help will be required to prevent anaphylactic shock. If one sights jellyfish on the shore or in the water, one should avoid treading into such water. The tentacles can be quite long and can hurt you a lot.

If you are fascinated by jellyfish and want to keep them in aquariums at home, you will have to do a lot of home work before you get them home. The usual rectangular aquariums will not suit them as they can get stuck in the corners. Round aquariums are much better suited for these orange jellyfish. In the wild, jellyfish are found around currents so in order to provide a natural feel for the jellyfish, currents should be provided in the aquariums.

Most of the jellyfish feed on micro plankton and can grow to be quite big hence a large aquarium should be maintained in order to give them enough space. Brine shrimp also serve as food and young brine shrimp work the best hence must be cultivated. Some jellyfish that grow in temperate regions will need a refrigeration unit in order to be grown in an aquarium.

Jellyfish are interesting and culturing and growing them will be more so. Jellyfish in aquariums are very informative and grab everybody's attention because of their color and the way they move. Though a lot of work will need to be put into keeping them alive, they have proved to stay alive for months and sometimes even years.
