Their tentacles have proven to be so harmful in the past few years that in a few regions, people have started to avoid going to the beach, forget about diving into it.
Did you know that even after this invertebrate dies, the sting it produces still has the power to poison somebody? This fish does not deter with death. Sometime ago a chaotic incident took place in the New Hampshire. A dead jelly fish, which was washed off at the Wallis Sands State Park, created horror and terror among all the visitors when pieces of stinging tentacles were scattered around the entire park.
These poisonous tentacles caused posthumous damage to almost everyone at the park. A lion’s mane jellyfish weighing around 40 pounds was the reason to much of the havoc created. Around 150 people were stung by the dead jelly fish’s tentacles and number of children and adults screamed in pain. The symptoms that were noticed among people who were affected by the dead fish’s carcass were red, sore legs and feet.
The authorities could not believe that this fragile organism was the monster which created most of the chaos.
The jelly fish which was the culprit and had caused the entire worry was found lying open in a trash bag getting baked in the hot sun. Children ran in frenzy as they experienced acute pain when the tentacles stung them. The beach that was usually tranquil, serene and calm, was transformed into a place full of mayhem.
Many people who were swimming in the waters were also stung by the poisonous tentacle. Later researchers and marine biologists explained that jelly fish is one such fish which can emit toxins even after it is dead. The biologists explained that the cell type of the organism is such that it keeps on firing venom into the tentacles even after few hours of its death; that is because these tentacles die way after the death of the jelly fish. When enquired from an injured mother, she said that while she waded across the sea to protect her daughter.
Both of them were severely injured and did not even get proper or immediate treatment as the bath house was already full of the jelly fish victims. The victims complained of severe burning; most of the victims were kids who hysterically complained of redness and extreme pain. Five children were immediately taken to the hospital as a precaution as they were already suffering with skin allergies. The life guards took an immediate action until the ambulance arrived, by buying baking soda and vinegar that are instant medical first aid.
It took quite a while for the authorities to understand what was happening? The reason is, that, jelly fish sting are a rare experience at the beach.
