Glow In The Dark Jellyfish
Jellyfishes come in wide variety of sizes, shapes and colours. Most of them are poisonous and reduce a toxin which when injected into the body of humans through a Jellyfish sting, can lead to even instant death of the victim. This poison creates an anaphylactic reaction in the human body and is extremely painful and causes enormous swelling of the bitten part and requires medication and even hospitalization.
Jellyfishes contain a special kind of protein called as GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) which has got the ability to glow in the dark. But not all Jellyfishes are having this special protein. There is a specific variety of Jellyfish which is also called as Neon fish. These fishes do not have the GFP (Green Fluorescent Protein) in their body fluids. In spite of that they glow brilliantly in the dark.
This property of glowing in the dark is due to the fact that they have a hair like structure called Cilia. These Cilia help in the movement of the neon Jellyfish from one place to other. When a ray of light falls on these Cilia, it is reflected back and hence the effect of glowing in the dark is produced. These neon Jellyfishes are found in a myriad of colours like red, blue, white etc. and look awesome when they glow in the dark.
